XL appoints rail specialist from Arch

XL Group has announced the appointment of Aldith Townsend as a new underwriter in its railroad insurance team, part of XL’s global excess casualty division.

Townsend will be based in New York and will report to senior vice president and railroad manager Denise DePrimo.

She joins XL’s dedicated rail team from Arch Insurance where she most recently served as a railroad underwriter.

Lorraine Seib, president of XL Group’s global excess casualty unit, says, “We’re excited to attract high calibre underwriting talent, like Allie, whose industry knowledge and underwriting skills are invaluable in helping us effectively address industry-specific insurance needs while wisely growing our business.”

Seib continues, “Allie is a welcome addition to our team adding more than 20 years of insurance underwriting experience, and nearly a decade dedicated to addressing the railroad industry’s risk management needs.”

DePrimo says, “Railroads play a very significant role in our supply chain and economy, carrying as much as 40 percent of the world’s freight cargo. Given the nature of their operations and the cargo that they are tasked with carrying, railroads face complex risks. That’s why they need to rely on the kind of specialized underwriting expertise and industry knowledge that Allie and our team brings to their risk management efforts.”
