Hiscox extends London market business to Brazil

Specialist global insurer Hiscox has announced the appointment of Simon Zelenoy to develop its London market business in Brazil.

In this business development role, Zelenoy will be responsible for finding attractive new opportunities in core lines of business such as marine & energy, property, contingency and fine art.

The company says that all leads will be referred back for underwriting through Lloyd’s in London.  Based in Lloyd’s representative office in Rio, Zelenoy will report to Hiscox London market upstream energy Line underwriter, Carl Day.

Zelenoy brings 22 years of diverse insurance and reinsurance experience to Hiscox, having worked as an underwriter, a broker and a risk manager within the oil and gas and power utility industries. He joins Hiscox from Argo Syndicate in Brazil where he spent two years as director, but has also worked for Willis as director of their treaty division, JLT, Heath Lambert and Aon.

Day comments: “Simon’s appointment is an important step for us as a business as it will provide us with increased access to an attractive market.  Simon’s contact base will lead to good opportunities matched against our appetite across identified key classes. We are both keen to start building a bigger Brazilian book right away.”

Zelenoy adds: “This is the first time that Hiscox London Market has had on-the-ground representation in Brazil, so I look forward to introducing my insurance and reinsurance contacts to Hiscox’s expert underwriting and focus on excellent customer service.”
