Hamilton Re, the Bermuda-based property casualty reinsurer of Hamilton Insurance Group, has announced that Susan Steinhoff will join the company next month as senior vice president, property.

Steinhoff will report to chief underwriting officer, property, Tim Duffin. She will take up her new position on November 4, 2014.

“As we build out our world class team of underwriters, I’m delighted to welcome Susan to Hamilton Re,” said chief executive officer Kathleen Reardon. “Her skill set represents an excellent complement to Tim Duffin’s depth of expertise. We now have significant underwriting bench strength at Hamilton Re, which positions us nicely for January 1 renewals.”

“Susan is experienced in working with a broad range of catastrophe treaties,” said Duffin. “She also has a global scope as a result of the relationships she’s established with multinational clients. She’s going to be a valuable addition to the team.”

Susan Steinhoff joins Hamilton Re with over 15 years’ experience in the reinsurance industry, most recently at ACE Tempest Re Bermuda where she was senior vice president, underwriter, in the company’s US Property Catastrophe department. Her responsibilities at ACE Tempest Re included underwriting US property catastrophe reinsurance and oversight of the company’s catastrophe modelling team.

Steinhoff joined ACE Tempest Re Bermuda in 2005 from ACE Financial Solutions International, where her primary responsibilities included underwriting international property cat reinsurance and worldwide property cat retrocessional risks on a structured basis.

Prior to joining ACE, Steinhoff served as assistant actuary for XL Re Ltd in Bermuda and actuarial analyst for Royal & SunAlliance in the US.
