Hamilton boosts development with senior appointment

Hamilton Insurance Group has announced that, pending requisite approvals from Bermudan immigration authorities, Bob Deutsch will be joining the company in the newly-created position of chief strategy officer.

Working with Hamilton’s executive management and reporting to group CEO Brian Duperreault, Deutsch, an insurance and financial services veteran, will identify opportunities for the ongoing development of the group’s operations outside of Bermuda, including both organic growth and strategic acquisitions.

“I’m not sure I can think of a better person to hold the position of chief strategy officer at Hamilton Insurance Group than Bob Deutsch,” says Duperreault. “Bob has done it all – as a chief actuary, a CFO, and a CEO, in start-ups and large corporations, both private and public – and he’s done it successfully. His capability, knowledge and experience will be of critical importance as we evolve from the small organization we are now to a global company.”

Deutsch has over 30 years’ experience in the insurance and financial services sector, most recently as managing director at GCP Capital Partners. He is a founder and former CEO of Bermuda-based property casualty insurer Ironshore, former executive vice president and CFO of CNA Financial, and former president, chief actuary and CFO of Executive Risk, a start-up company acquired by Chubb.

“I’ve known and respected Brian Duperreault for over three decades,” says Deutsch. “The opportunity to work closely with him and the talented people at Hamilton to build a premier insurer and reinsurer, backed by a world class asset manager like Two Sigma, is tremendously exciting.  I’m thrilled to be joining the company.”

Deutsch has advised various companies and private equity investors in the insurance industry.  Additionally, he has been a director of numerous insurance companies including Beazley Furlong Limited, Chaucer Holdings (now part of Hanover Insurance), Darwin Professional Underwriters (now part of Allied World Assurance Company), Enstar Holdings (US), Platinum Underwriters, and Wilton Re Holdings.

A graduate of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Deutsch is a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, an associate of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
