Bermuda conference well-received by delegates

The Bermuda Insurance Institute (BII) has celebrated the success of its recent Bermuda Insurance Market Conference (BIMC). The annual event, which is in its fourth year, saw both local and international experts give presentations and participate in panel discussions to approximately 100 delegates.  The Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR) and the Bermuda Business Development Agency (BDA) both gave important updates on Bermuda's insurance industry at the event  ABIR’S presentation focused on Bermuda’s navigation of international regulatory developments while the BDA encouraged those present to be ambassadors for Bermuda and our role as a key off shore destination for insurance practice. Sir Russell Coutts, chief executive officer (CEO) of The Americas Cup Authority gave the key note address at the conference which took place at O’Hara House on Thursday,  8 and Friday 9 October, 2015. Dr Dawnnelle Walker, CEO, BII, said: “Our goal is to provide relevant, meaningful development opportunities for the insurance and related industries in Bermuda.  The Bermuda Insurance Market Conference is one of the key events on our calendar, and each year it goes from strength to strength.”   Shannon Totten, conference chairman, added: “The BII has proudly and successfully served the educational needs of the island’s re/insurance industry for over 40 years.   We have embraced the changing needs of the industry’s intellectual capital in recent years by vastly broadening our offerings to address all career stages; from the introductory level up to executive leadership courses from institutions such as Wharton and Harvard.    “The BIMC presented a tremendous opportunity to hear from the highest caliber of global professionals in their respective fields while staying right here in Bermuda.” Sponsors of this year’s event included: ACE, Arch, Endurance, and XL Catlin at the Gold level.  ABIR, AWAC, AON, Ariel Re, BDA, Bowering Marsh, JLT, Lockton, OIL, Willis and The Institutes at the Silver level.    The BII is a registered charity and educational institution, funded by its insurance and related industry members.
