AXIS Re hosts first hackathon
AXIS Re has hosted its inaugural "Future of Insurance" student hackathon in the Siebel Centre for Design on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
The event was a collaboration between the AXIS Research Centre and the University of Illinois Office of Risk Management and Insurance Research. During it students were challenged to create new catastrophe risk conceptualisation models while leveraging data analytics, computer programming and risk modelling technologies that are reshaping the insurance industry.
Students were also asked to build a data visualisation tool for underwriters to assess the potential impact of catastrophic incidents. These include floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes and other natural and manmade disasters, which can cause catastrophic damage in a given region.
