AXIS announces new actuarial scholarship in China

AXIS Capital Holdings has teamed up with Renmin University in Beijing in China to create the AXIS Re Actuarial Scholarship.

According to AXIS the scholarship fund will provide financial assistance to actuarial students in the School of Statistics at Renmin University to help further develop their actuarial science skills and acumen and to promote professional training in actuarial sciences in the Asia Pacific region.

The company said that the scholarship is representative of its global commitment to developing the next generation of insurance professionals.

At a ceremony at Renmin University, AXIS Re Asia Pacific deputy chief underwriting officer Les Loh and vice president Tony Gu presented scholarships to five actuarial science students.

“We are proud to partner with Renmin University to provide scholarships to some of its most talented and deserving actuarial science students,” said Gu. “These scholarships reflect our company’s commitment to helping to engage and cultivate the next generation of insurance and reinsurance professionals.”

“The actuarial sciences play a vital role within the insurance industry by enabling more advanced and accurate business analysis, risk modeling and, ultimately, decision making by underwriters,” added Richard Milner, president and chief underwriting officer of AXIS Re Asia Pacific. “We look forward to continuing to work with Renmin University, as well as our other partners in the Asia Pacific region and throughout the world, to support the educational needs and advance the professional development of students who wish to pursue a career in insurance.”
